MEES Report

(Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards)

The MEES Report (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards) is a critical document in the United Kingdom that demonstrates compliance with the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) for residential and commercial properties. MEES is part of the UK Government's effort to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, reduce energy consumption, and meet climate change goals.

What is the MEES Report?

The MEES Report is an assessment of a property’s energy performance against the minimum energy efficiency standards required by law, as outlined in the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Sector) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015. These regulations prohibit landlords from renting out properties with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating lower than E (i.e., properties with an EPC rating of F or G are considered non-compliant with MEES).

Purpose of a MEES Report

  • To assess whether a property meets the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards.

  • To determine if a property with an EPC rating of F or G can be legally rented out or if improvements are necessary to meet the E rating or higher.

  • To identify energy-saving improvements that can help landlords meet the standards.

  • To assist with the creation of a plan for improving energy efficiency if necessary, ensuring compliance with both EPC and MEES requirements.
